The Cuban Journal of Angiology and Vascular Surgery is the official and scientific body of the National Institute of Angiology and Vascular Surgery and the Cuban Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery. It represents a publication of reflection and critical debate about theoretical and practical aspects of this specialty and the related basic sciences. Likewise, it constitutes an informative vehicle for the development of the thought, practice and tradition of Cuban angiology and vascular surgery, so it has a national and international scope, and its mission is to contribute to the development of science in this medical-surgical specialty, through the selection, evaluation and publication of national and foreign scientific articles of proven quality, novelty and relevance.

The journal is published (Publisher) by the Editorial Medical Sciences of Cuba.

It allows the total or partial reproduction of the texts published on its pages provided that the source is cited. Authors are responsible for the opinions they express in their works.

The Journal accepts documents that have been previously deposited in recognized Preprints servers of the specialty (SciELO Preprints, PMC, Plos, MedRxiv), as well as with the opening of the data and the open peer review.

It applies the continuous flow publication of articles of their issues.

All articles submitted by the online management system www.revangiologia.sld.cu/index.php/ang/about/submissions will undergo an open evaluation process, which will be used as arbitration practices to promote the transparency of the editorial and scientific communication process.

The journal is indexed in: SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library on Line), Latindex, Imbiomed, Lilacs and DOAJ.

The journal is open access and free.

The Editorial Board will conduct an initial review to determine the relevance of the topic and whether the manuscript complies with the publication guidelines. If the article presents methodological deficiencies or does not deal with a topic of interest to the journal, it will be rejected.

The reception and registration of the manuscript is only the initial step in the editorial process for its selection and does not necessarily lead to its acceptance for publication. The final decision rests exclusively with the Editorial Board, which reserves the right to choose the articles to be published, as well as to make stylistic modifications respecting the original content. The selection of the material proposed for publication is based on the interest for the majority of professionals, scientific soundness, originality, timeliness, timeliness of the information, seriousness in the treatment of the subject, its writing and compliance with the rules of medical ethics. The evaluation process of the articles is totally automated and the author will be able to receive and exchange with the editorial committee, as well as to follow up the evolution of the process, necessarily through the electronic platform (Open Journal System).

The manuscript is sent to two reviewers, who will have four weeks to review it; their conclusions will be evaluated by the editorial committee. In case of discrepancy of opinion between the two reviewers, a third one will be appointed.

Each manuscript is reviewed taking into account specific review guidelines according to the type of article, which may be requested by authors and reviewers. The observations and suggestions of the Editorial Board and reviewers will be sent to the responsible author, who should respond as soon as possible.

The decision of acceptance, acceptance with modifications or rejection is communicated by the editor to the author. In case of rejection, the editor sends to the contact author the results of the evaluation with the reviewers' suggestions regarding the improvements that could be applied to the article. If accepted, the article goes to the editorial processing stage.

EVALUATION SYSTEM

All articles submitted through the journal's online management system will be subjected to an open peer review process. This process of arbitration practices will be conveniently used as a mechanism to favor transparency in the editorial and scientific communication process.

About submitted manuscripts

As part of the adoption of the universal principles of Open Science in favor of credibility and transparency of research results, the Revista Cubana de Angiología y Cirugía Vascular accepts manuscripts deposited in Preprints servers. It is the authors' duty to declare the permanence of their manuscripts in these repositories. Manuscripts submitted will be subjected to an initial evaluation to determine their relevance to the thematic coverage of the journal and compliance with the established regulations. Papers that do not meet these initial requirements will be returned.

Policy on previous publications and presentations at events

The Revista Cubana de Angiología y Cirugía Vascular will not consider any original research paper or component of a research paper that has been published or is under consideration for publication elsewhere. Theses or dissertations are not considered prior publications. Publication of research articles on not-for-profit preprint servers such as SciELO Preprints, arXiv.org, bioRxiv.org, ChemRxiv.org, medRxiv.org and the like is acknowledged. Distribution on the internet in other ways may be considered prior publication and may compromise the originality of the article as a submission to a scientific journal. While manuscripts are under the peer review process they should not be published in any instance. If any press coverage should be made regarding the content of the manuscript, it is recommended that this be done after the paper has been published.

Policy on errors after publication

Its structure and length will be determined by the Editorial Committee, together with the editorial processing unit or Publisher (Editorial Ciencias Médicas). An ad hoc team may be selected to carry out the activity.

Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

Significant recent advances in large language models (algoritmos sophisticated generative artificial intelligence (AI) trained on massive amounts of data from lenguaje) have resulted in widely available writing tools, such as OpenAI's popular chatbot, ChatGPT, that can parse text and produce new content in response to user prompts. This technology has important and immediate implications for academics writing articles and for the journals that publish them.

  • The journal requires authors to declare the use of AI-assisted technologies in any aspect of the creation of the submitted work.
  • AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as an author or coauthor of a manuscript.

  • Human authors are responsible for any material submitted that includes the use of AI-assisted technologies, including its correctness, completeness, and accuracy.

  • Peer reviewers should not upload manuscripts in software or other AI technologies where confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
  • Even if AI-assisted technologies are used in such a way as to ensure the confidentiality of the manuscript, reviewers who choose to use such technologies to facilitate their review must declare their use and nature, and are responsible for ensuring that, in any AI-generated information, the content incorporated in the reviews is correct, complete, and unbiased.

The editorial committee will analyze each particular case in relation to the ethical violation and will take the pertinent measures according to the case.
