Abstract

Introduction: Perianal abscesses are acute purulent collections that occupy the perianal space. They occur at a high rate in men and often result in a fistula. Symptoms are more severe the closer the abscess is to the skin. Early diagnosis is of vital importance for adequate and timely drainage, as these cases can progress to severe sepsis with perineal and genital gangrene.

Objective: To present the results of the use of Heberprot-P® in a patient diagnosed with a perianal abscess.

Case presentation: We present the case of a 59-year-old male patient with a history of controlled hypertension; an intercity bus driver who presented to the Surgical Emergency Department of the Comandante Manuel Fajardo University Clinical Surgical Hospital in Havana. He was diagnosed with a perianal abscess, and it was decided to admit him for major emergency surgery. A wide incision and drainage were performed. Twenty-four hours after surgery, it was decided to initiate treatment with four applications of Heberprot-P®. The lesion granulated within 28 days. Treatment was then continued with weekly hydrocolloid dressings until complete closure. No adverse events were reported, and reoperation was avoided.

Conclusions: The presented clinical case had a favorable outcome. Effective wound granulation was achieved with the application of Heberprot-P®.
