Abstract

Introduction: Despite the great technical advance represented by internal arterio-venous fistulas for hemodialysis, these are not exempt from complications that compromise their durability. Among them are juxta-anastomotic venous aneurysms.

Objective: To present the surgical treatment used to repair arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis in Juxta-Anastomotic Venous Aneurysm.

Methods: A 54-year-old female patient, black skin color, with a history of chronic renal failure of twelve years of evolution and failed kidney transplantation. She presented a juxta-anastomotic venous aneurysm, located in a humerus-cephalic arteriovenous fistula in the left upper limb, confirmed by Eco-Doppler.

Results: Aneurysmectomy and replacement grafting with expandable poly-tetrafluorethylene vascular prostheses were used as surgical treatments. Finally, the arterio-venous fistula and its permeability were preserved.

Conclusions: Arterio-venous fistula as an access route for hemodialysis was satisfactory in terms of its functionality and use.
