Introduction: The diabetic foot is a sequela of two of the more common chronic complications in diabetes mellitus.
Objective: To describe the results of the Comprehensive Care Program for the Patient with Foot Ulcer and Treatment with Heberprot-P®.
Methods: A descriptive research was carried out at Hospital Manuel Fajardo Rivero, of Santa Clara city, Villa Clara province, in the period October 2017-April 2014. The sample was made up of 247 patients. The variables were sex, age, triggering risk factors, location, the physiopathological component, Wagner classification, granulation time, adverse events, the number of Heberprot-P® doses, the performed surgical treatment, and the range of days for the wound closure. Absolute frequencies and percentage were used for discreet quantitative and qualitative variables. The information was presented in charts.
Results: Ages between 61 and 70 years predominated, accounting for 43.17 % of patients; as well as the female sex, for 55.14 %; neuropathic diabetic foot, for 83.0 %; grade II ulcer, for 76.5 %; the right foot, for 71.3 %; and plantar location, for 45.4 %. Necrectomy was performed in 38.9 % and metatarsal ostectomy, in 30.7 %. Effective granulation occurred in 79.4 %. Healing time ranged from 22 to 30 days (46.1 %).
Conclusions: Comprehensive care of patients with diabetic foot ulcers and using Heberprot-Pâ achieved an effective granulation of the wounds, sufficient for the total healing.
