Abstract

Introduction: Chronic venous disease is a prevalent and persistent vascular disorder, whose “familiarity” has led to its underestimation, resulting in an incomplete understanding of its pathophysiology, its functional and social impact, and an unsatisfactory therapeutic approach.

Objective: To present an updated review of the topic and contribute to its better understanding.

Methods: A search was conducted in the specializad literatura on the discipline, in different languages, from recent years.

Results: Twenty five articles were selected from the main specialized journals in the discipline, and the topic was structured academically, from the definition to current management strategies.

Conclusions: CVD is a chronic, progressive, and incurable condition, and its management requires a holistic approach to both diagnosis and treatment. It typically has a bening course, but can sometimes lead to disabling conditions in advanced stages, making prevention and appropriate treatment essential.
