Abstract

Introduction: Physical exercise is recognized as a key component in health promotion and in the treatment of various diseases, including disorders of the circulatory system. For this reason, family physicians must be prepared to design and implement this type of non-pharmacological therapy.

Objective: To propose an exercise program to be prescribed by family doctors for patients with peripheral venous insufficiency.

Methods: A qualitative study was conducted at the Camagüey Pediatric Hospital in October and November 2025. It was carried out by consulting 10 experts, including four family doctors, an angiologist, two physical culture graduates, a physical therapist, and two epidemiologists.

Results: The program was designed and structured around objectives, general considerations, and recommended exercises with descriptions. It includes flexibility and stretching exercises, isometric exercises, low-impact aerobic exercises, strengthening exercises, and mobility exercises. In this same order, reference can be made to calf stretches and knee rotations, calf and thigh contractions, walking and cycling, heel raises and partial squats, as well as leg lifts and marching in place.

Conclusions: The proposed exercise program is designed to be implemented safely and effectively by family physicians in patients with peripheral venous insufficiency. Regular practice of these exercises can help improve the patient's quality of life and overall well-being.
